Our Qualities

When we consider the many questions Concierges are asked, the problems they are presented with, and the knowledge they should have in many different areas, the list of QUALITIES a Concierge should have seems quite long. Good Concierges must be discreet, open, courteous, empathetic, multi-lingual and often quick-witted. In a world where time is everything, Concierges must "get a feel" for clients and their needs without hesitation and resolve them in a very short time.

Most Concierge start as porters and rise through the ranks, they must possess that special quality and the desire to serve. This takes years of hard work and training, and to become a member of Les Clefs d'Or, he or she must be very qualified indeed.

To qualify for Les Clefs d'Or, he or she must have years of working experience at the Front of the House of hotels, of which no less than three years must be uninterrupted as a Concierge. Many stay in the profession until retirement - just like wine, 'they mellow with age', the longer they stay in the profession, the better they get.

Concierges of course have extensive knowledge of their own surroundings: their hotels, communities, cities and countries. They are also 'networking people' with links to others in their local areas and with colleagues throughout the world - particularly in cities favored by their joint clients.

It's quite a task to be a good Concierge, requiring many various types of knowledge and an array of good qualities. A Clefs d'Or Concierge will be the best of the best, and must possess them all.
